A sensor mount redesign for Sensory Robotics.

Duration: 12 weeks

UC ID Team Project

Components

Robot Arm

Designed for factories to speed up the manufacturing process.

Sensor

Designed to sense humans and prevent accidents.

Safety System Demo

Previous Setup: Pain Points

Large footprint

Long assembly times

Separate from robot

Design Objective

Design a sensor mounting harness system that securely mounts sensors directly to the robot, providing 360° coverage. Must be lightweight and adaptable to all robot arms.

Ideation

Sensor Attachment

Vibration Dampening Concepts

Initial Sensor Attachment

The initial design for the sensor attachment was a simplistic frame. It connected via the existing screw holes and included vibration dampening pads.

Placement Strategy

How can we eliminate blind spots through placement strategy?

Integrated Ring Design

Minimal footprint

Adaptable to robot arms

Attached to robot

Ring Ideation

Ring Attachment Concepts

Cable Routing

Modified Sensor Attachment

Vibration Dampening (integrated into ring)

A ring mount design allowed for integrated cable routing.

The modified sensor attachment allowed for a more secure and supportive system that could attach to the ring.
